Have you ever seen
the movie “Walle”? If you haven’t it’s a perfect example of what will happen to
the world and the people in it if we leave childhood Obesity as it is! This
movie should be watched by parents and children because it’s funny but the
message is serious and meaningful. The moral of the movie shows that we should
live healthy lives, but if we don’t we will all evolve into obese people with
short arms and legs and can’t move around at all. Now do any of us want this? I
THINK NOT!!! Now the question is what we can do to prevent this “Walle World”
from becoming a reality.
Even though this
blog title is directed toward childhood obesity it’s more to it than that. As parents we have to realize our children look up to us and do
the things they see their parents doing. This means exercising, eating, certain
foods, and going to bed at a certain time. Kids are very aware of all these
things and as parents we have to this. What this means for us (Parents) is that
we have to make time to exercise and eat healthy foods and go to be at a decent
time, or at least pretend to go to bed that way our kids will go to sleep. I
know parents need their alone time because sometimes kids can be a hassle, but
hey you got to love them. J
By exercising and
eating healthy our kids will most likely learn to love to exercise and eat
healthy. Basically what is happening is we are helping our kids develop good
habits that will benefit them throughout their whole life. I know it can get
hard at times because we work and when we get home sometimes we are so tired
all we want to do is get some Zzzzzz. Parents understand that you are not alone
we are all tired raising kids and keeping them healthy can be difficult, especially
when everywhere you go you see fast-food and each cash register you check out
of has a candy rack right before you leave so that kids can see it and ask. I
mean what young child doesn't like McDonald's they give toys out and have a
playground. When I was a kid I loved McDonald's sometimes still do, so we can’t
blame the kids at all it’s the nature of kids to like fast-food and junk food.
I’m not being a hypocrite and saying never take your kids to McDonald's or give
them junk food. This is okay sometimes but as a parent we have to be in control
and manage when and what we give our little ones to eat.
You explain very clearly why childhood obesity, and all obesity for that matter, is a problem that needs to be fixed. In addition, I like your use of pictures, which explains the movie for people who haven't seen it, provides visual backing for your argument, and deftly avoides offending anyone at the same time. I look forward to hearing specifics on what exactly can be done about this issue.
ReplyDeleteThank You Lauren and yes childhood obesity is a major problem right now i want people to see how much of a problem it really is. I should be adding specifics very soon on what we as a whole and individually can do to stop Childhood Obesity :)
Deletei like how you put things into perspective for everyone to see. It is true that obesity is getting out of control. People are becoming more lazy about wanting to get up and do something about their weight. But it only back fires when they want to be like every skinny person out there. It was great that you used wally in this post cause people are heading in that direction if something is not done.
ReplyDeleteCindy I totally agree. One thing I've noticed about childhood obesity or even parents being obese is that they want to lose weight. I don't even consider myself obese but yet I want to lose weight. The reason for this is exercising can be difficult and even harder to be consistent. Laziness keeps us from exercising, one thing I'm noticing is that in order to get people out of their laziness we have to incorporate fun things into workouts. One thing I find fun is Insanity. Its hard but fun because I see other people on the video doing it and its motivating plus you get to listen to music while exercising. The teacher on the video motivates you and its only 45 minutes a day. I highly recommend this! Any one who wants to lose weight I suggest that you find something that's entertaining and fun but at the same time its a method of exercising. One example is if you like to dance find a dance workout and be consistent. Its Simple... YOU CAN DO IT
DeleteThis is a great post! Relating the a movie makes this post that much more interesting and fun! This post makes it easy to understand child obesity. I like the fact that you refer to the parents having a major role in their child and there personal well-being, because not all parents understand that children need role models and the parents should be a good place to start. I cannot wait to see what other ideas you choose to post. Good job!
ReplyDeleteExactly Davina Hirst! A lot of parents don't understand how important they are to helping decrease childhood obesity. They are the role models and if they lead with healthy examples of living then so will the children and that's what I want parents to understand. Its not all the parents fault but we do need to take some blame but we also can get the blame off of us by teaching our offspring how to live a more healthier life
DeleteI honestly believe if schools bring back recess instead of taking it away kids won't be as big as they are now. Also the food industry in schools shouldn't charge students for breakfast and or lunch, because parents are already paying enough taxes. I think the food in schools should be more healthier and free. We see that students aren't eating, but when they do eat their bodies are used to eating and then if the world study's the body. They see that the body will store more food resulting in obesity.
ReplyDeleteI think technology is one of the biggest causes of childhood obesity. Kids aren't going outside and playing sports or making up games with there friends. They just stay inside and play video games because it's too hot outside. Parents turn off the games and make them go outside the sun isn't as dangerous as everyone says with sunscreen its almost nothing wrong with it. Yes, I enjoy my AC but I haven't forgot how to go outside and do something.
